What We Do

Business Litigation

Contract disputes, partnership and shareholder conflicts, trade-secret claims, and commercial collections in Massachusetts state and federal courts. We try cases when trial serves the client, and we say so plainly when settlement serves them better.

Estate Planning & Probate

Wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxies, and full probate administration. Flat-fee packages begin at $1,800, so families know the cost before the first document is drafted.

Real Estate

Commercial leasing, purchase and sale agreements, title disputes, zoning and permitting, and closings for residential and commercial property across Greater Boston. We have closed transactions on Garrison Street and in every neighborhood around it.

Employment Law

Executive employment and severance agreements, non-compete and non-solicitation matters, wage-and-hour compliance, and workplace investigations. We counsel both employers and senior executives, though never on opposite sides of the same dispute.

A Firm Built on Preparation

Whitfield & Associates was founded in 1994 by Margaret R. Whitfield in a two-room office on Batterymarch Street, on the conviction that a small firm of careful lawyers could out-prepare any opponent. Three decades later, the firm occupies Suite 1100 at 60 Garrison Street, but the conviction has not changed. Every matter, large or small, is staffed by a partner who knows the file cold.

We are deliberately small. Four attorneys allow us to be selective about the matters we accept, candid about the matters we should not, and present — personally — at every deposition, closing, and hearing. Clients work with the lawyer they hired, not an associate they have never met.

Our practice is regional by design. We know the judges, clerks, registries, and customs of Massachusetts courts, and we appear regularly in Suffolk, Middlesex, and Norfolk counties as well as the federal District of Massachusetts.
