Services & Pricing

No mystery math. Black Anchor charges a shop minimum of $120 and an hourly rate of $180. Booked appointments require a $100 deposit, which is applied to the final cost of your tattoo — it's a hold, not a fee.

Custom Tattoos

$180/hour

Original work designed for you by your artist. Small pieces are quoted flat at consultation; anything over roughly an hour is billed at the hourly rate. You'll know the estimate before the needle touches skin.

Flash & Walk-Ins

from $120shop minimum

Friday and Saturday, 12pm–8pm, first come, first served. Pick off the wall or bring something small and ready to go. Most walk-in pieces land between $120 and $300.

Cover-Ups & Reworks

$180/hour

Old tattoo, bad tattoo, faded tattoo — we've fixed worse. Cover-ups start with a free in-person consultation so we can be straight with you about what black ink can and can't hide.

Consultations

Free30 minutes

Sit down with your artist, talk through placement, size, and reference. Large-scale projects (sleeves, backpieces) always start here. Book by phone or email — no deposit needed for a consult.

Cash, card, and contactless accepted. Tipping is appreciated, never required.

Resident Artists

Four chairs, four very different hands. Every artist at Black Anchor is licensed by the Oregon Health Authority and books their own work — tell us the style and we'll put you with the right person.

Marisol “Mickey” Vargas

American Traditional

Twelve years in the trade. Bold lines, heavy whip shading, solid color that still reads at fifty feet — eagles, panthers, roses, banners. If it belongs on a sailor, Mickey does it right.

June Okada

Fine-Line

Single-needle botanicals, script, and micro work with the steadiest hand in the building. June's pieces are delicate on day one and built to stay crisp — she'll tell you exactly how small is too small.

Dane Holloway

Blackwork

Heavy black, geometric pattern, dotwork, and brutal ornamental pieces. Dane is also the shop's cover-up specialist — large fields of black are the most honest fix for a tattoo you regret.

Kenji Mori

Japanese — Irezumi-Inspired

Large-scale work in the Japanese tradition: dragons, koi, chrysanthemums, waves, and wind bars built to flow with the body. Sleeves and backpieces start with a free consultation and a real plan.

Flash & Recent Work

Ten sheets straight off the shop wall, drawn by the hands that will tattoo them. Every flash design here is tattooed as-is, from $150 — pick it, point at it, done. Want something of your own? Any piece on this wall can be the starting point for a custom commission: book a free consultation and your artist will draw it for your body, not for the wall.

The Shop

Black Anchor Tattoo Co. opened on SE Ironvale in 2012 with two chairs, one flash wall, and a simple rule: do clean work and treat people straight. Fourteen years later there are four chairs and the rule hasn't changed.

We're a custom street shop in the old sense — you can walk in on a Friday and leave with a solid piece of traditional flash, or you can spend six months building a backpiece with Kenji. Both customers get the same sterile setup, the same single-use needles, and the same honest pricing.

The shop is licensed by the Oregon Health Authority, every artist holds a current Oregon tattoo license and bloodborne-pathogens certification, and every station is broken down and disinfected between clients. We use single-use, individually packaged needles and ink caps. Always have.

Questions, Answered

Do you take walk-ins?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome every Friday and Saturday from 12pm to 8pm, first come, first served. Tuesday through Thursday we work by appointment only.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Our shop minimum is $120 and our hourly rate is $180. Small pieces are quoted flat; larger work is billed hourly, and your artist gives you an estimate at your consultation before anything is booked.

How do I book an appointment?

Call (503) 555-0117 or email bookings@blackanchortattoo.example with your idea, placement, and rough size. Every appointment is confirmed with a $100 deposit, which is applied to the final cost of your tattoo.

How old do I have to be to get tattooed?

You must be 18 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID. Oregon law allows no exceptions, even with parental consent.

Where can I park, and is the shop near transit?

Metered street parking runs along SE Ironvale Ave, with free two-hour parking on the side streets off SE 14th and 15th. TriMet bus line 14 stops half a block from our door.

Do you do cover-ups and reworks?

Yes. Dane and Kenji both take on cover-up and rework projects. Bring a clear photo of the existing tattoo to a free consultation and we will tell you honestly what is possible.

How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

Eat a full meal, drink plenty of water, and skip alcohol for 24 hours before your session. Wear clothing that gives easy access to the placement area.
